Ring resizing
Can my ring be resized?
Many rings can be made larger or smaller, but every ring needs to be assessed individually. How much a ring can safely be altered depends on:
- The metal
- The design of the ring
- How many sizes it needs to change
- Diamond or gemstone settings
- The thickness and condition of the band
- Any pattern or engraving on the band
Some rings are harder to resize. Full eternity rings, with stones all the way round, and rings made from titanium, tungsten or stainless steel often cannot be resized in the usual way. We will tell you if a ring cannot be altered safely and talk you through the alternatives.
How ring resizing works
Making a ring bigger or smaller
To make a ring smaller, a small section of the band is removed and the ends are joined. To make it larger, the band is stretched slightly or a piece of matching metal is added. The ring is then cleaned and polished.
White gold rings normally need rhodium plating after resizing to restore an even, bright white finish across the join. We will tell you if your ring needs it.
Engagement and diamond rings
Engagement and diamond ring resizing
An engagement ring needs particularly careful assessment, because changing the size of the band can affect the stone settings.
We inspect the ring, check how it is made and advise on the safest approach. If we notice worn claws or a loose stone during the inspection, we will point it out so it can be dealt with at the same time.
Wedding rings
Wedding ring resizing
Fingers change over the years, and a wedding ring that once fitted perfectly can become tight or loose. Bring it in and we will measure your finger and assess the ring.
We know how much a wedding ring can mean, so we explain the proposed work before anything is done.

Can you make my ring bigger?
Many rings can be made larger. How much depends on how the ring is made and its design. Small increases can sometimes be made by stretching the band. Larger changes usually need extra metal adding.
Can you make a ring smaller?
Yes, many rings can be made smaller. We examine the ring first to decide the best method.
Can diamond engagement rings be resized?
Many can, but the stone settings and the way the ring is made need to be checked first. We will advise on the safest approach.
Can an eternity ring be resized?
Full eternity rings, with stones all the way round, are difficult to resize because there is no plain section of band to work on. Half eternity rings are often possible. Bring it in and we will advise.
How much does ring resizing cost?
There is no single price for every ring. The cost depends on the metal, the design, how many sizes it needs to change and whether it contains diamonds or gemstones. We give you a price before any work starts.
Will resizing affect my white gold ring?
White gold rings usually need rhodium plating after resizing to restore an even, bright white finish. We will tell you if your ring needs it.
Can an old ring be resized?
Potentially. Older rings are checked for wear and structural condition before any work is undertaken.
Can you resize a ring I bought somewhere else?
Yes. Bring it into the shop and we will assess it.
